Criminal justice is a broad field with many careers to choose from. There are three main areas in criminal justice: law enforcement, legal, and corrections.
A Criminal Justice degree program provides the student with a broad-based understanding of the criminal justice system, why crime occurs and how best to respond to crime on both a societal and individual level. The curriculum combines theory and applied skills, providing a breadth of knowledge and experience an individual will need to meet the demands of a position in this field. There is also special emphasis placed on understanding the perspectives of offenders, front-line professionals, administrators, the community and others who come into contact with the criminal justice system.

The career trajectory of people with a Criminal Justice degree appears to be focused around a few careers. The most common career that users with Criminal Justice degrees have experience in is Police Officer, followed by Correctional Officer, Security Guard, Probation Officer, Forensic Science Technician, Detective, Ambulance Dispatcher, Paralegal, Legal Secretary, and Social Worker.

Criminal Justice Underemployment
Criminal Justice graduates are highly employed compared to other graduates. We have collected data on three types of underemployment. Part-time refers to work that is less than 30 hours per week. Non-college refers to work that does not require a college degree. Low-paying includes a list of low-wage service jobs such as janitorial work, serving, or dishwashing.
