According to the BLS, web designers may either work for a firm and develop material for various websites or build websites for clients as self-employed freelancers. According to the American Institute of Graphic Arts, solo designers who freelanced or worked under contract to another company reported median earnings of $62,000-$65,000 (in 2013).
