The CareerExplorer career test is made up of several parts, each specializing on a different aspect of your personality, interests, history, or aspirations. It begins by asking you a series of questions that correspond to over 150 different traits, spanning from what fields you would be interested in to things that you absolutely can't stand. Some examples of dimensions are things like how artistic you may be, how much you dislike standing for long periods of time, or how into public speaking you are. All of these dimensions are important when finding a career that suits your personality.
CareerExplorer then collects relevant information about what you may have done in the past, such as any education that you have received or careers that you have been. CareerExplorer also collects things like your salary expectations, and how important immediate employment is.
CareerExplorer then uses all of this compiled information and compares it to our database of over 700 (and growing) careers using a proprietary algorithm for determining your compatibility with each career. Our career data comes from a variety of sources, including the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Network system (O*Net for short), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as well as from CareerExplorer's own internally gathered data.
